High School: Excelled as setter/hitter, earned All-League, All-Orange County Player of the Year, High School All-American. First player to declare college focus on sand volleyball.

USC: AVCA All-American 3 years. Freshman year: National Champs with Burnham (42-4 record, 28 wins streak). Sophomore year: National Champs with Claes-Cheng (44-3 record, 25 wins streak). Junior year: Undefeated (48-0), National Champs, cemented status as top collegiate player.

Professional: Joined circuit in 2017, multiple tournament wins, world championship medals, career-high world ranking #2.

Kelly Cheng

Early Brilliance:
Born Kelly Marie Cheng in 1995, volleyball talent blossomed early in Fullerton, California.

Followed in her father’s athletic footsteps, earning accolades at El Dorado High School.


Collegiate Dominance (USC Trojans):
Teamed up with Sara Hughes, capturing bronze and silver medals at U19 and U21 FIVB World Championships.

Won back-to-back NCAA Championships in 2016 and 2017.

Earned the inaugural Pac-12 Player of the Year award.

Professional Journey:
Youngest duo to win an AVP Gold Series event with Sara Hughes.

Partnered with Sarah Sponcil, securing a silver medal at the 2019 FIVB four-star event and qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.

Reclaimed the name Claes after marriage and reunited with Sara Hughes.

Won the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in 2023.
